Little Rock Community honors
Veterans with leather jackets
(RLNN) - About sixty Little Rock Community members took part in honoring their
district’s veterans on Sunday, October 9, 2003, with an honor song dedicated to them from
Darren Defoe, a feast complemented with Red Lake’s famous walleye, and each a plaque and
leather jacket.
The Little Rock Community honored the World War II veterans last year, and this year they
were going to honor their Vietnam veterans as well as some of the peace-time veterans.
Tom Barrett said that if they missed people who should have been honored, to give them a
call, as they were going to do their best to see that everybody who served the country received a
jacket and a plaque.
“Without our veterans, we wouldn’t be able to do what we’re doing today,” he said.
“We’re really appreciative of what they’ve done for us.”
Presenting the awards–a plaque and Red Lake Nation leather jackets that had their names
and branch of service on them–were members of the Little Rock Board of Directors.
The plaques read: Anishinabe Ogichidaag, in recognition of your devoted service and the
many sacrifices you have made for the Red Lake Nation.
Receiving the plaques and Red Lake Nation leather jackets with their names and branch of
service on them, were Leo Morgan, USMC; James King Sr. US Navy; Herman Lussier, USMC;
Jack Desjarlait, US Army; Roland Roy, US Army; Ed Strong, US Army; Bruce Roy, US Army;
Stuart Desjarlait, US Army; Clyde Neadeau, US Army; Harlan Beaulieu, US Army; John Spears,
