7th Annual Diabetes Conference to be
held on November 10, 2003
(RLNN) - Red Lake’s 7th Annual Diabetes Conference will be held on November 10, 2003
from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Red Lake Middle School Library.
Registration is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m., with fruit, bagels and beverages in the
cafeteria of RLMS.
After the Opening Ceremony by Thomas J. Stillday, Spiritual Elder, this years Keynote
Speaker will be Charmaine Branchaud, RN.CDE, Diabetes Educator/Coordinator, and at 9:45
a.m. Dr. Michael Burromeo will talk about Internal Medicine Diabetes Management.
The first of 3 scheduled Mini Sessions begins at 10:45 a.m. with Metabolic Syndrome
hosted by Charmaine Branchaud, Diabetes Educator/Coordinator; Risk Factors for Heart Diseast
with Rachele M. Donnell, RN, Red Lake Community Health Nursing; and Diabetic Medications
with Eileen Sumner, RN CDE, Diabetes Educator.
A Walk Against Diabetes (MMAD) will take place at 11:30 a.m., with lunch and social hour
following.
The second Mini Session is similar to the first session, with one addition, which is Nutrition
and Diabetes-What Can I Eat, coordinated by Jill Bryeyen, RD, LD Registered Dietitian.
At 2 p.m. is the beginning of the final Mini Session, with Mental Wellness taught by Peter
Mitby, MS, LP, Licensed Clinical Psychologist and Physical Fitness hosted by Delwyn Holthusen,
Fitness Assistant.
One new addition to the conference this year is Diabetes Bingo from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. with
prizes for players.
Blood sugar and blood pressure screenings will also be available throughout the day.
