RED LAKE SCHOOL DISRICT SUPERINTENDENT
OCTOBER 2003
**October Board of Education meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct 15, 5 PM,
Admin Office.
**The Board of Education at their September meeting approved May 29, 2004 as
the graduation date for the class of 2004. Graduation ceremonies will be held at the
middle school at 1 PM.
**A number of changes have been made to the school calender. Oct 21 will be a
half-day for students. During the afternoon district staff will be attending a
workshop on student due-process rights.
**There will be no school on Oct 15 for middle and high school students. The staff
will be attending a mandated workshop entitled “Protect and Serve”. School will be
held all day for elementary students.
**Students from the middle and high school will participate in a violence prevention
walk on Oct 28. The walk is scheduled to begin at 11 AM and will end at the
Humanities Center.
**Once again the district is in the process of approaching the 2004 Legislative
session for a capital bonding bill on 33.1 million dollars. Included in this amount is
a request for a new middle school. The district is also requesting additional funding
for the renovation of the existing middle school for use by the high school program.
On Nov 4 voters will be asked to vote yes on this request.
**Blackduck Schools has indicated they have stopped open-enrollment for this
school year..
**Open enrollment (new ones) need to be filed with the school district by January
15, 2004.
