Deerwood Bank-Red Lake
Branch has Grand Opening

On Thursday, October 9, 2003, Deerwood Bank-Red Lake Branch Office, held its official
Grand Opening in Red Lake, hosting an outside cook-out in the parking lot of Red Lake Foods,
and giving away some prizes which included a DVD player, a $50.00 savings bond, and some
certificates for the Seven Clans Casino-Thief River Falls and Red Lake Foods.
They also held a ribbon cutting ceremony at the entrance of the bank with Red Lake Tribal
Chairman Billy King, Treasurer Darrell Seki Sr., Deerwood Bank board member John Spalj, and
Red Lake Branch manager Derek Head.
“We’re very excited to be here,” Derek Head said during the ceremony. “It’s been a great
welcoming so far in the community, and we hope to keep that going for everybody.”
Board member Spalj cut the ribbon, and Chairman King was presented with a Deerwood Bank
jacket.
“Hopefully this bank will help everybody with their financial needs–check cashing, money
orders–and in the future maybe they would expand,” Chairman King said.
On behalf of the Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians, Chairman King presented the bank
with a Red Lake Nation flag.
Deerwood Bank of Deerwood, Minnesota, with branch offices in Bemidji, Brainard, Cross
Lake and Garrison, now have one in Red Lake and their doors were officially opened on
September 15, 2003.
The hours of operation at the Red Lake Branch office were 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays
through Fridays, and their telephone number is 679-3700. Deerwood also has online banking and
a full informational Website–where you can even apply for a loan or other services–at
www.deerwoodbank.com.
Winners of their door prizes were: Hilda Donnell, 2 nights stay at 7 Clans-Thief River
Falls; Robert May, DVD Player; Patricia Prentice, $50 Gift Certificate at Lakes Sport
Shop; Geraldine Rosebear, $50 Certificate for Ground Round; Tillie Colhoff, $50 Savings
Bond; and Dayon Lussier/Leah Cook, $50 Savings Bond.
