One cold quarter allows Nevis to hand Lady
Warriors their second loss of the season 63-40
The Red Lake girls basketball team were on the road again for their second game of the
season on Thursday, December 4, 2003, and a 17-4 second quarter was the difference in the
game.
Red Lake kept pace with Nevis in the first quarter of regulation play, trailing by just 1 point
going into the second, 13-12.
But a Nevis rally and Red Lake frigid with their offense in second quarter allowed Nevis to to
take a 30-16 lead at the half.
In the third quarter Red Lake outscored their opponents 13-11 and kept pace in the fourth,
but could never make up the deficit caused by the second quarter, losing 63-40.
The Lady Warriors outscored Nevis in the second half 25-23.
Kate Perkins led all scorers with a game high 19 points on the night, followed by Andi
Cobenais with 9, and Charlene Anderson and Marie Spears each with 6.
Alexandra Hesse scored 18 points for Nevis, with Jane DeCrans adding 13, Anne Rittgers 11,
and Jimm Wizik 10.
Red Lake’s record dropped to 0-2, while Nevis upped theirs to 2-0 on the season. The Lady
Warriors are on the road again to take on Kelliher-Northome on December 9, with their first
home game–as well as a 3-game home stand–scheduled for December 11th when they host
Laporte.
