WILLIAM SULLIVAN SR.
William Patrick “Bill” Sullivan,Sr., 78 of Crookston died March 9 at Mission, Texas.
Funeral services for Bill Sullivan were held on Monday at the Cathedral in Crookston.
He is survived by Dee, his wife of 55 years, 2 sons and a daughter in law, Reverend Patrick
Sullivan of Red Lake, Bill and Pam Sullivan of Crookston, 3 grandchildren, sister and brother in
law, Donna and Fritz Menard of Crookston, 4 sisters in law, Joyce Sullivan of Crookston, Emalyn
Sullivan of Minneapolis, Marge Sullivan of Brooklyn Park and Valerie Sullivan Ruwwe of
Arizona.
Bill grew up in Crooksotn and served in the Army during World War II and was awarded the
Purple Heart and other decorations. He received his bachelors degree from UND And was a 3
year letter winner for the UND Sioux Hockey team. He taught school in Hallock and then
returned to teach at the Cathedral School until 1977. He served as the athletic director, football
and hockey coach. He farmed with his brother Leo until 1990 and was an ag salesman for Poly-Phos and then High Grade Fertilizer in Hendrum, retiring in 1988.
He was employed part time at the Real Estate Place. In 2002 he was inducted in the UND
Hockey Hall of Fame with his fellow Sioux teammates.
