Rose Marie “LaLa” Johns

 

Rose Marie “LaLa” Johns, 57, of Red Lake, MN died Sunday, August 26, 2007 at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, ND.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 pm, Thursday, August 30, 2007 at the St. Mary’s Mission Catholic Church in Red Lake with Rev. Patrick Sullivan officiating. A wake will begin at 11 am on Tuesday at the Red Lake Center and will continue until the time of the services. Interment following cremation will be with her daughter at a later date at the St. Mary’s Mission Catholic Cemetery in Red Lake under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home in Bemidji.

Active Casketbearers will be Donald Brun, Jr., Todd, Zachary, Michael and Bruce Johns, Greg and James Stately, Brandon Morgan, Dan Brun with alternates Roman Stately, Jr., and Joseph Johns, Jr.

Honorary Casketbearers will be Jacob Johns, Matthew Dudley, Charlene King, Marilynn Spears, Shirley Maxwell, Audrey Roy, Shirley McNeal, Donna Brun, Lorraine, Connie, Debbie and Dorla Chaboyea, Geraldine Brun, Ruby Wilkins and Sharlene Brown.

She was born September 11, 1949 in Red Lake, Minnesota, the daughter of James and MaryJane (Carl) Brun. She graduated from Red Lake High School in 1967. She went on to receive an Associate in Applied Science Degree as Medical Lab Technician from Hibbing Community College and a degree as a Radiologist Technician from Bemidji Northwest Technical College. She was also a member of the American Society for Clinical Pathology and served the community of St. Mary’s Parish as an Education Board Member. She worked for Indian Health Services for 26 years in the Lab Department as a Medical Lab Technician. She also worked at the Red Lake Head Start for 5 years as a Health Coordinator. She enjoyed spending time with her four grandchildren and other family members and friends. She also enjoyed going to casinos, shopping and watching TV.

She married Phillip Johns on Oct. 1, 1968 at which time they moved to Oakland, California. They later moved back to Red Lake where they made their home and raised their three children.

 

She is survived by her husband- Phillip Johns,
Daughter- Jessica Johns
Son- Frank Johns
4 grandchildren- Jacob and Philomene Johns, Matthew Dudley and Damon Johns
Sisters- Mary (Joseph) Johns
Shirley Maxwell
Brothers- George “Billy” (Betty) King
and Donald (Geraldine) Brun, Sr.

She was preceded in death by her daughter- Colleen Rae Johns on April 6, 2007, parents- James and MaryJane Brun, 2 brothers – Bruce and Gerald “Butch” Brun and 2 sisters- Gretchen Stately and Bonnie Kingbird.
