Norvin Buddy Cloud, Sr. Majiikiiwis

 

Norvin Buddy Cloud, Sr., Indian name, MajiiKiiwis, 68, of Ponemah, Minn., died Tuesday, July 17, 2007 at his home in Ponemah, Minn.

 

Traditional Indian Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 21, 2007 at the Ponemah Community Center in Ponemah, Minn. with speaker Anna Gibbs Officiating. 

 

A wake will begin on Friday, July 20th at 6 PM and will continue until time of services at the Ponemah Community Center.  Burial will be in the Family Burial Grounds in Ponemah, Minn.  Military Honors will be provided by the Red Lake VFW Post.

 

Honorary pallbearers will be all his close friends and relatives

 

Active pallbearers will be Norvin B. Cloud, Jr., Alex Cloud, Richard Cloud, Royce Graves, Jr., Clem May, and John Jourdain.

 

He was born at Red Lake, Minn. on December 12, 1938 the son of Henry and Maggie Cloud.  He entered the U.S. Army on November 24, 1961 and was honorably discharged on November 22, 1963.  He then served in the Reserves until November 23, 1967.  He worked at various jobs in the Twin Cities for several years.  He married Frances Whitefeather on August 11, 1967.  Three sons were born of this union.  He and his family moved back to the Red Lake Reservation in 1968 and have lived there since.  He worked for the Red Lake Builders and retired from the Bureau of Indian Affairs in 1994.  He was well liked and respected by all who knew him.  He had a great sense of humor and loved to tease the ‘girls’.

 

He is survived by his wife, Frances of Ponemah; 3 sons, Norvin B Cloud, Jr. (Kerri) of Shelton, WA, Alexander Cloud of Ponemah, and Richard F. Cloud (Sharyl) of Cass Lake; a grandson Andrew W. Cloud of Shelton, Washington; a Brother Lynas Cloud (Barbara) of Red Lake; 2 sisters, Delores Cloud-Hammitt (Monte) of Bemidji, MN and Diane Sigana of Minneapolis; and numerous other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
