Michael
Joseph Johnson, “Miskwa-Andeg,” 27,
of Redby , MN
entered the spirit world on Friday, July 27, 2007 in the highest tradition of
the Ogichida
by giving his life so others may live.
Traditional
Funeral Services will be 10:00 am, Thursday, August 2, 2007 at the Redby
Community Center in Redby, MN with Spiritual Leader Nathan Smith
officiating. A visitation will be from 5:00pm until 8:00pm on
Tuesday, July 31, 2007 at the Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji. A
wake will begin at 11:00am, Wednesday, August 1, 2007, at the Redby
Community Center , and continue until the time of the service.
Interment will be at the Fox Point Cemetery
in Redby , MN
under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji.
He was born on
June 23, 1980, in Bemidji , MN the son
of Joe and Eileen (Loud) Johnson. He was raised and educated in Bemidji until the age of
sixteen when he moved to Redby. He attended Bemidji High School
during the day and Leech
Lake Tribal
College at night.
He earned enough credits to complete high school in three years graduating in
1999. He was studying the Ojibwe language and earning credits
toward an Associates degree at the Leech
Lake Tribal
College after he
graduated from high school. He worked at the Seven Clans Casino in Thief River
Falls , for six years before transferring to the Red Lake
Casino. He started out as a busboy and worked his way up to being a
chef. He enjoyed working on, and attending car shows, playing poker,
playing and watching all sports. He enjoyed attending pow-wows,
he was a traditional dancer, also a singer. He did beadwork, made pipes,
and made dreamcatchers
for nieces, nephews, and whoever needed them. He loved being with his
friends and family.
He is
survived by: Mother, Eileen Loud Johnson of Redby, MN; Father,
Joe Johnson of Bemidji , MN; Sister, Anne-Marie Johnson of Redby, MN;
Niece, Gabriella Dominguez of Redby, MN;
Grandmother, Ennis
Johnson of Redby , MN; Numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was
preceded in death by: his grandparents Johnson and Clemence Loud,
grandfather Frank Johnson, uncles, and cousins.
Honorary Casketbearers will be: Jim Brown, Mickey Hodges, Paul
Beaulieu, Cliff Martell, Joe Aitken, Bill Morris, Ron Leith,
Harold Donnell, Duane Hill, Peter McKenzie, Clayton Benjamin, Charles Smith Jr., Jack Johnson, Hodge White, Genci Haloci, Tim Schoenborn,
Doug Yellow, Ron Kingbird, Mark Kingbird and Vince Beyl.
