Loretta Virginia Hurd, 70, of Ponemah , Minn. died Thursday, February 14 2008 at the Red Lake Hospital in Red
Lake , Minn.
Services are pending with Cease Family Funeral Home of Blackduck,
Minn.
Traditional Indian Services will
be held at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, February
19, 2008, at the Ponemah
Community Center in Ponemah, Minnesota
with Spiritual Leaders Tommy Stillday Sr. and Anna
Gibbs officiating. A wake will begin
at 3:00pm, Sunday, February 17, 2008, at the Ponemah Community
Center in Ponemah , Minnesota
and will continue until the services. Burial will be in the Family Burial
Grounds in, Ponemah , Minnesota .
Honorary pallbearers will be
Loretta’s Family and Friend.

She was born on March 18, 1937
in Red Lake , Minnesota
the daughter of Paul and Sarah (Perkins) Johnson, Sr.
She married Marvin Hurd, Sr. in Ponemah , MN , on
October 16, 1957.
She was a teachers aide at the Hans Christian
Anderson Elementary
School in Minneapolis , and was a Foster Grandmother at the Ponemah School for a number of years. She
was an Appelate Judge in the Red Lake Tribal Courts.
She was involved in MICOE as a board member, was on the Ponemah
Community Board, and also in Wisdom Steps.
She enjoyed puzzle books,
gambling, and playing cards. Her family was her life, she enjoyed being
with her children, grandchildren, and will be deeply missed by her husband.
She is survived by her:

Paul Perkins of Red Lake, MN, Calvin
Johnson of Mpls., MN; And 20 grandchildren, 5 great
grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by:
her parents, brothers Paul Johnson Jr., Ralph Johnson,
Sisters Elizabeth, Clara, Roxie, and 2 infant sons.
