Leland Sayers Obituary

Leland Sayers, 48, of Redby, MN died Thursday, April 28, 2005 in Fargo, ND at the MeritCare Hospital.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 pm Thursday, May 5 2005 at the Little Rock Community Center. A wake will begin 10:00 am Tuesday, May 3, 2005 at the Little Rock Community Center.  Interment will be at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Red Lake, MN under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji.

He was born in Red Lake, MN on December 5, 1956, the son of Royce and Esther (Fairbanks) Sayers.  He was raised and educated in Red Lake.  At the age of 8, he and his family moved to Minneapolis, MN.  Leland attended the Phillips School.  He was a traditional dancer and attended pow-wows whenever he could.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, laughing, and having fun.

He is survived by: Special Friend, Donna Lewis of Ponemah, MN; Sons, Leland (Rena) Martin of Red Lake, MN;Adrian Sayers of Cass Lake, MN; Travis Sayers of Cass Lake, MN; Carl Kingbird of Ponemah, MN; Kyle Kingbird of Ponemah, MN; Daughter, Brittnay Lewis of Ponemah, MN; Brothers, Adrian Lussier of Red Lake, MN; Randy Sayers of Red Lake, MN; Royce Sayers Jr.; Sisters, Marlene Barrett of Red Lake, MN; Ramona Smith of Red Lake, MN; Alvina Sayers of Red Lake, MN; and 6 Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by: his parents, step-son Dewayne Lewis, Brothers, Sisters, Nieces, and Nephews.

Casketbearers will be: Charles May, Tony May, Donald May, Robert “Base” Jenkins, Arnold Martin, Greg Madigan.

Honorary Casketbearers: Leroy Varney, Travis Varney, Cheyanne Lussier, Gordon Lussier, Adrian Sayers Sr., Tyrone Barrett, Loren Barrett, Daryl Barrett, John Lussier, and Dale Sayers.
