KENNETH JOHNSON

July 20, 1947 - December 19, 2004

       

       Kenneth Johnson, 57, of Ponemah, Minnesota died Sunday, December 19, 2004 at the Red Lake Indian Health Service Hospital at Red Lake, Minnesota.

       Cease Family Funeral Home of Blackduck assisted the family with arrangements.

       Traditional Indian services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, December 22, 2004 at the Ponemah Community Center in Ponemah, Minnesota with Spiritual Leader Greg Kingbird officiating. A wake will begin late Tuesday Afternoon at the Ponemah Community Center and will continue until the services. Burial will be at the Johnson Family Burial Grounds in Ponemah, Minnesota.

       Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Johnson, Gloria Johnson, Marilyn Johnson, Donna Johnson, Brenda Johnson, Darren Perkins, Dwight Perkins, Billie Jean Perkins, and Dustin Perkins.

       Active pallbearers will be Randall Kingbird, Doug Kingbird, Jeff Kingbird, Jack Bugg, Eugene Standing Cloud, and Bo Thompson. Alternates Kevin Johnson, Fred Johnson, Mark Kingbird, Bill Hardy, Dino Perkins, Eugene Perkins, and Dan Perkins

       Kenneth was born on July 20, 1947 at Red Lake, Minnesota, the son of James R. Johnson and Delores (French) Johnson. He was raised and attended school in Red Lake. He worked as a truck driver for Johnson Logging. He was a commercial fisherman and he also worked for Red Lake Housing as a maintenance worker. He retired in 2002. He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandkids and going to the Casino.

       He is survived by his three sons, Darren (Natlie) Perkins, Dustin (Missy) Perkins, and Dwight Perkins all of Ponemah; one daughter, Billie J. Perkins of Ponemah; one brother, Robert (Nancy) Johnson of Coon Rapids; four sisters, Gloria (Bob) Johnson, Marilyn Johnson, Donna Johnson all of Minneapolis and Brenda (Bill) Johnson of Ponemah; numerous nieces and nephews.

       He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Gloria Perkins in 2002; a brother, William Johnson.
