John D. Smith

 

John Smith, age 71, of Redby, MN, died Monday, May 16, 2005 at Neilson Place, Bemidji, MN. Inurnment will be in St. Antipas Cemetery, Redby.

Honorary bearers will be Delwin Holthusen, Allen Bailey, Myron Smith, and all of John's grandchildren.

John Delbert Smith was born March 12, 1934 in Redby, MN to William J. and Ellen (Latrail) Smith. He grew up in Redby and lived there all his life. In 1952 he joined the Army. John made his living as a truck driver for many years, and enjoyed being on the road. On November 19, 1955 he married Ethel Garrigan in Fosston, MN. John enjoyed hunting, fishing, and drinking beer with his buddies. He was a great mechanic.

John is survived by his wife Ethel, Redby; sons John Smith Jr., Ronald Lee (Bonnie) Smith; daughter Leah Jean Smith, all of Redby; 13 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; sister Rachel Barrett, Redby; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son Richard "Rick"; brothers: David Chaboya and Elmer Smith; sisters: Alberta Pemberton, Edith Tanner, and Margie Smith.
