Genevieve Tverstol

 

 

Genevieve Tverstol, 78, of Bemidji, died Monday, March 24, 2008, of cancer at her home.

A private family service will be held at a later date. The Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home of Bemidji assisted the family with arrangements.

She was born Sept. 1, 1929, to James and Anna (Weise) Gurneau in Red Lake. She went to boarding school in Pipestone, Minn. After school, she moved back to Red Lake and married Waldon Tverstol in Cass Lake in 1947. After their marriage, they lived in Red Lake and on the Iron Range, and eventually moved back to Bemidji, where she remained until her death. She worked as a certified nurses’ assistant at the Lake Julia Nursing Home and Beltrami Nursing Home, retiring in 1990. She loved to sew, play piano, and was a wonderful cook. She also enjoyed bingo, spending time with family and was an avid Minnesota Twins fan.

She is survived by her daughters, Lynnette (Lowell) Koebernick of Morris, Minn., and Patti Tverstol of Bemidji; sons, Lauren Tverstol of Grand Forks, N.D., Waldon J. Tverstol of Bemidji, Glendon Tverstol of Wisconsin and Harold Tverstol of Bemidji; brother, Manuel Gurneau of Bemidji; sister, Ann Mischke of Thief River Falls, Minn.; special friend, Lyle Lesetmoe of Bemidji; 18 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three step- grandchildren; three step- great-grandchildren; one step- great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers; two sisters; and daughters, Dorothy, Laureen and Barbara.
