Flora Freda
White, whose Indian name was , “Ogiimahgiizhiigook”,
which means, Leader Day Woman, 84, of Red Lake ,
MN died Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at Merit Care Hospital in Fargo,
North Dakota.
Traditional
Indian Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Sunday, March 3, 2008 at the Ponemah Community Center in Ponemah,
Minnesota with Officiant Anna Gibbs,
officiating. A wake will begin on Friday, February 29, 2008 at the Ponemah Community Center in Ponemah , MN and will
continue until the services. Burial will be in the Family Burial Grounds
in Ponemah , Minnesota.
Honorary
pallbearers will be all of her nieces and all of her friends at the Jourdain
Perpich Extended Care
Center.
Active
pallbearers will be Adrian White, Louis “Luke” White, Jon Parker, Sr., Frank
Strong, Jr., Chuck White, Randy White and alternates will be her nephews.
She was born
on August 13, 1923 in Ponemah , Minnesota
the daughter of Peter A’gaasedoong White and Znaawiing biinaase “Southern Bird
Women”. She attended school in Ponemah.
She mostly lived in logging camps with her special friend, Ole Smith, logging
in the Big Falls , Northome, and Blackduck areas. She had been a homemaker most of her
life. She lived in Bemidji for many years
before she moved to the Jourdain Perpich
Extended Care Facility in Red
Lake for the last 7
years. She liked to play cards, and go to the Casino. She loved all
her children and was a good mother, grandmother, and always helped people out.
She is
survived by her brother, Jack (Betty) White of Ponemah;
granddaughers, Val (Dave Cournoyer)
Parker of Red Lake, and Donna Parker of International Falls; grandsons, Rob
Parker, Sr. of Rochester and Richard (Kristie) Bugg
of Wisconsin who she raised since he was an infant; 13 great grandchildren
& 3 great great grandchildren; and numerous other
relatives.
She was
preceded in death by her parents; a son Lawrence Parker, Jr.; 3 brothers,
George, Sam and Elbert White; a sister, Agnes White; a granddaughter, Laura
Parker; and a special friend, Ole Smith.
