Fannie Anderson Johns

 

       Fannie Anderson Johns, 95, of Red Lake, MN, died Wednesday, January 5, 2005 in Red Lake, MN at the Jourdain-Perpich Extended Care Facility.

       Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Saturday, January 8, 2005 at the St. Marys Catholic church with Father Pat Sullivan officiating. A wake began Thursday, January 6, 2005 at the Red Lake Community Center and will continue until the time of the service. Interment will be at the St. Marys Catholic Cemetery in Red Lake, MN, under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji.

       Fanny was born on September 26, 1909, in Neptune, MN, a part of the Red Lake Indian Reservation, the daughter of James Anderson and Ada Red Eagle. Her mother died at an early age, she was then raised by her father and grandmother (Ikwezaans). She married Eddie Jones in 1926, he died later that year. She married Thomas Johns in 1928. Fannie resided her whole life in Red Lake. Fannie was a very strong and knowledgeable woman. She was very respected and will be sadly missed by many. In her early years Fannie worked in various jobs. She was a mother first, also raising many of her grandchildren. She worked as a commercial fisherwoman, ricing, picking potatoes, and quilting. She also did a lot of beading and sewing for traditional dance outfits. Fannie enjoyed picking berries, gardening, playing bingo, going to the casinos, and spending time with her family. Fannie was believed to be the oldest living full blooded Chippewa woman on the Red Lake Indian Reservation. A birthday party was held in her honor on September 25th, 2004.

       She is survived by her: Sons, Maynard Johns Sr. Dale Johns, both of Red Lake, MN; Daughters, Priscilla Stately, Edith Jackson, Sylvia Brun, Darlene Beaulieu, Billie Jean Johns, all of Red Lake, MN; 41 Grandchildren, 129 Great Grandchildren, 82 Great Great Grandchildren

       She was preceded in death by: her parents, husband Thomas Johns, 3 sons: Kenneth Jones, Roman Johns, Leonard, Johns, Charles ChubbyJohns, Siblings: Ned Anderson, Charlie Anderson, Robert Anderson, Ella Dickenson, Jacob Anderson, Hattie Anderson, 10 Grandchildren, and 1 Great Grandchild.

       Casketbearers will be: her grandsons, Craig Roy Jr., Keith Stately, Harold Brun, Greg Johns, Nolan Desjarlait, Charles May, Alton Beaulieu, Maynard Johns III, and alternate Charles Grolla

       Honorary Casketbearers will be: her granddaughters, Fawn Beaulieu, Dawn Beaulieu, Glennis Johns, Kelsey Roy, Karis Beaulieu, Nicole Fairbanks, Patricia Neadeau, Mary Beth Neadeau, Randina Stately, Jewel Desjarlait, Shirley Jackson, and alternate Tracy Saice.

      We honorably mention the Jourdain-Perpich Extended Care Facility of Red Lake, Mary Sayers, and Mary Rose Skinaway.
