Dewayne Michael Lewis, Jr.

 

Dewayne Michael Lewis, Jr., 15, of Ponemah died Monday, March 21 , 2005 in Red Lake, MN.

Arrangements are pending with Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji, MN.

Traditional Services will be
2:00 pm Saturday, April 2, 2005 at Ponemah Community Center in Ponemah, MN. A wake will begin Thursday at the Ponemah Community Center in Ponemah. Interment will be at the Family Burial Grounds in Ponemah under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji.

He was born
January 3, 1990 in Bemidji the son of Dewayne Lewis, Sr. and Donna Kingbird Lewis. He was raised in Ponemah and attended Ponemah Elementary School. He then attended Red Lake High School. He was a Ponemah Elementary School Brave. He was a grass dancer and enjoyed attending pow-wows. He has played basketball at Elementary, Middle school and High School.

He is survived by father: Dewayne Lewis, Sr. of Oklahoma; Mother and step-father: Donna Lewis and Leland Sayers of Ponemah; Brothers: Carl and Kyle Kingbird of Ponemah; Sister: Brittaney Lewis of Ponemah; Nieces: Serena Lewis and Tayla Kingbird--both of Ponemah; Nephews: Delwyn Cloud, Jr. and Keyshawn Kingbird of Ponemah; Grandmother: Gladys Lewis of Minneapolis; Grandfather: Leonard Lewis of South Dakota; and numerous cousins, aunts, uncles from Minneapolis, Denver, Oklahoma and South Dakota.

He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents Lucille and Jack Kingbird, Sr. and uncle Edmund Kingbird.

Honorary Casketbearers will be Davis Rosebear, David Rosebear, Chad Hurd, Corey Whitefeather, Jr., Shadow Whitefeather, Willard Kingbird, Jr., Andrew Spears and Richard White, O-ba-shing Softball Team and the Red Lake Basketball Team.

Active Casketbearers will be Carl Kingbird, Kyle Kingbird, Delwyn Cloud, Sr., Leland Martin, Mickey French, Chris Hurd and alternates will be Jeremiah Kingbird, Tyrone Natewa and Seneca Whitefeather.
