Derrick Brian Brun

 

Derrick Brian Brun, 28 of Red Lake died Monday, March 21, 2005 as a result of a fatal gunshot wound to the chest at the Red Lake High School in Red Lake.

Funeral Services will be
11:00 am Monday, March 28, 2005 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Red Lake with Mgsr. William Mehrkens officiating. A wake will begin Saturday evening at the Red Lake Center and go until the time of service on Monday. Interment will be at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Bemidji under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji.

Active Casketbearers will be Maurice “Dewey” Lawrence, Corey Desjarlait, Chris Roy, Franklin Skinaway, John Noraas William Schommer, Jerry Oakgrove, Irene McGraw and Becky Stough Honorary Casketbearers will be all his nieces and nephews: Travis Brun, Daniel Brun, Virgil Skinaway, Jr., Lindsay Johns, Vincent Skinaway, Zachary Johns, Amber Brun, Kali Johns, Erin Brun, Francis Brun III and Mallori Brun.

He was born on
September 28, 1976 to Francis and Barbara (Lussier) Brun in Bemidji, MN. He graduated from Red Lake High School in May 1994. He attended BSU In-School Program during his senior year of high school. He was employed with the Americorps Program from 1995-1996. He continued his education at BSU in the fall and worked part-time at Food For Less. He was hired as a police officer in June 1998 and continued in this position until July 2004. He began working at the Red Lake High School as a Security Guard in October 2004. He enjoyed writing poetry, playing guitar, golfing, cooking and being with family and friends.

He is survived by his mother and father, sisters, Vicky Brun and Kathy Brun, brothers, Francis “ZonceBrun and Jeffrey (Kristy) Brun, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins all from Red Lake.

He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Courtney Marie, his grandparents, Nancy and Joseph Lussier and Martha Brun, uncles Kenneth Lawrence, Paul Lussier, Donald Lussier and Claude Beaulieu; aunts Marilyn King and Gertrude Beaulieu.
