Charles Douglas Wind, Indian Name, “Gee-Ce-Gum” meaning Ocean, 60, of Red Lake,
Minnesota died Wednesday, March 17, 2004 at the Red Lake Indian Health Service Hospital in
Red Lake, Minnesota
Funeral Services will be 2:00 P.M., Saturday, March 20, 2004 at the Red Lake Community
Center in Red Lake, Minnesota with the Rev. Jim Speer officiating. Visitation will begin
Thursday, March 18, 2004 in the afternoon at the Red Lake Community Center and continue until
the time of the Funeral Services. Interment will be at St. John’s Episcopal Cemetery in Red Lake,
Minnesota.
Honorary Casketbearers will be Gary Wind, Sr., Randy Wind, Lance Wind, Micheal Wind,
Douglas Wind, Jeremy Wind, Jason Wind, Eric Wind, Gary Wind, Jr., Dennis Robinson, Jr.,
David Wind, Nodin Wind, and Terrance Wind, Jr.
Active Casketbearers will be Fabian “Nickle” Cook, Joe Barrett, Leif Saunders, Rudy Corona,
Gerald Wind, Reuben Wind III, and alternates will be Neil Lussier, and Gordon Spears.
Charles was born on April 8, 1943 in Red Lake, Minnesota the son of Reuben and Margaret
(White) Wind Sr. He grew up and attended school in Red Lake. In September of 1968 he married
Thelma “Eva” Wind in Red Lake, Minnesota. He lived and was employed in Chicago for a
number of years until he returned to Red lake. He was an ambulance driver for a few years. He
was also employed at the Red Lake High School as a custodian until he had to retire due to
illness. He was living at the nursing home in Kelliher until recently when he moved to Red Lake.
His interest included golfing, fishing, hunting, and sports. He enjoyed spending time with family,
friends, and foster children. He also enjoyed doing activities with the children of the Red lake
Reservation.
He is survived by his brothers, Reuben (Luanne) Wind, Jr., and Terrance Wind both of Red
Lake; sisters, Joyce Wind and Cheryl Wind both of Red Lake; a very special daughter, Joyce
Wind of Red Lake; and a special friend, Judy Moreno of Red Lake.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts, nieces and
nephews.
