Monarchs return to Ponemah

Ponemah 5th grade students participated in Journey North's Symbolic Monarch Butterfly Migration by joining other students from across the United States and Canada in making paper butterflies that were sent to Mexico for the winter.

Using information provided by Journey North we were able to follow the migration of the Monarchs as they made their way to Mexico last fall. While our butterflies were wintering in Mexico, they were cared for by students who live near the sanctuaries.

The Monarchs returned to Ponemah just in time for Cinco de Mayo. The Monarchs that made it to Ponemah were made by other students in the U.S. and Canada. We are now tracking our own butterflies and are hoping to make new friends in the process.
