A REPORT TO THE COMMUNITY
RED LAKE SCHOOL DISRICT SUPERINTENDENT
MARCH 2004
**The March Board of Education meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 17, 5 Pm, at the
Ponemah Library.
**The Board and Administration continue to attend legislative committee sessions in St. Paul
concerning the bonding bill request the district submitted. At the present time the Governor has
designated 22.1 Million towards a new middle school. The committees representing the House
and Senate have approved and passed on to higher committees a bonding bill of 33.1 Million.
Alternative plans have been discussed concerning the location of a new middle school within the
district. The Board and administration is presently developing plans to add a new middle school
on to the existing sixth grade section at the old middle school building.
** Parents are reminded that counseling services are available in each building for students.
Parents that need help in meeting the needs of their child are reminded that school counseling
services are available to them. For more information on the counseling services available, contact
the principal at the building where your child attends.
**On the school calendar April 12 is listed as a day off for students. There will be school held on
that day. This is a makeup day for the day we missed on January 5th. The school calendar has been
extended one day with May 27th now listed as a day for students. The final day for staff is May 28.
**As we slowly draw closer to the end of this school year, the school district is planning on
holding summer school this year. Once plans have been finalized, information on summer school
within the buildings will be sent home.
**The district will take a stronger stance on negative student and crowd behavior at sporting
events. There is no need for fans to swear at the refs or throw items at the people attending the
game from the other school. Throwing of objects at refs and players will not be tolerated.
Members of the crowd will be escorted from the game if it continues once.
