Red Lake Elementary Students donate school supplies to Bosnia Elementary students

By Jean Whitefeather

Red Lake Elementary Principal

In December, several staff members and students read an article about students in Bosnia that are in desperate need of pencils, pencil sharpeners, and other school supplies. The students and staff at Red Lake Elementary School and the Kindergarten Center decided to start at drive for donations of school supplies to send to Bosnia elementary students.

Many parents, students and staff brought in donations, some brought one, some brought a bag full, but all were appreciated. The Seven Clans Casino in Thief River donated money, which was spent to buy pencils and pencil sharpeners for their classrooms. Delores Cloud-Hammitt, Title IX director, did a great job of helping us get organized and making plans.

Pictured above are some of our 4th grade students helping load the donated supplies in a Kraus-Anderson Construction pick up. Kraus-Anderson Construction will be packing the supplies and covering the entire cost of shipping the donations.

Thanks to all the students, parents, staff and community members that donated, Seven Clans Casino staff, Delores Cloud Hammitt, and Kraus-Anderson Construction for helping us make this a great team-effort donation!
