On Thursday, August 12, 2004, the Red Lake Department of Natural Resources (DNR) held their Annual Take-A-Kid Fishing Day at Fuller's Lake in Red Lake.
There were about 140 kids participating in the event, which Fisheries Biologist Pat Brown said was their best turnout since they had started doing it about ten years ago. The event started at 10:30 a.m. and went until 3 p.m.
The Red Lake Tribal Council helped with a $600 donation for school supplies for the kids, Red Lake's Boy's and Girl's Club donated shoes and T-shirts, and Nei Bottling donated refreshments. A lunch was also provided for the young fishermen and fisherwomen.
Helping with the event was the Red Lake DNR Conservation Department, DNR Staff members, Red Lake Law Enforcement, the Boy's and Girl's Club, and other volunteers.
It was a wonderful experience for the kids, and everyone who took part in the event received fishing rods and other prizes. DNR plans to continue the event in 2005, along with their annual Take-A-Kid Fishing Event in the Twin Cities--which also continues to grow. |
