The cover of the Catalyst, a quarterly publication of The Minneapolis Foundation in Minneapolis,Minnesota, features Carly Clark, an "A" Honor Roll student and a participant in Destination 2010.
According to Emmett D. Carson, President and CEO, "she's proof that public schools can work, with hard work and commitment, a caring and involved family, and the community behind her."
Carson's comments in the magazine read, "Carly's sister and her husband, RuthAnn (Donnell) and Michael Brown, are Carly's carefivers. They are quick to express gratitude for the opportunities Carly has received through Destination 2010 - such as summer camp scholarships - and modest about their own steady and positive contributions to her success.
Carly is a bright and energetic girl who continues to achieve. That she is American Indian should be merely an aside, but the fact that Indian students have the highest school dropout rates in Minneapolis only underscores the importance of recognizing Carly's achievement and continuing to support the academic success of all students. That is one of the reasons The Minneapolis Foundation continues its involvement in education."
Carly is an enrolled member of the Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians. |
