RLHS senior students visit Washington D.C.

By Chris Dunshee

RLHS Principal

During the recent Red Lake High School senior trip to Washington D.C. April 18-24, Red Lake High School students had a very intensive week of study with the program instructors learning about our government and observing first hand how our government functions. The students also had the opportunity to meet in person with Congressman Collin Peterson on the steps of the Capitol Building. Senator Mark Dayton was not available on the day we were on Capitol Hill so he made a special trip on Friday evening to come over to our hotel and meet personally with all our students and take individual pictures with them.

While in Washington the students got to see the Vietnam Memorial Wall, The Korean Memorial, The New World War II Memorial, The Lincoln Memorial, The Washington Memorial, and Arlington Cementary with the Changing of the Guard at the the Tomb Of The Unknown Soldier. While at the White House many of the students got a glimpse of President Bush taking off in his helicopter from the White House lawn. Other places the students went were to a Threatre In the Round where they took in a play and the Holocaust Museum.

This was an outstanding group of students who not only learned things that they will remember for a lifetime, but also a group that left a lasting impression on their fellow students they met and interacted with during this week long learning experience. This group truly did an outstanding job of representing Red Lake High School as we are all very proud of them.
