Letter to the Editor

Jerry Mueller of Princeton , MN whose boat and fishing gear were confiscated by the Red Lake Department of Natural Resources on May 28 really should ask himself if he wants Proper Economic Resource Management to take this to federal court. This group has taking Mille Lacs Band of Chippewa Indian to court and lost. The federal court gave more rights back to the band as a result of their case against the Mille Lacs Band.

Now he wants them to take on Red Lake , which is a sovereign land and closed reservation. Red Lake is known to fight for their rights. Red Lake will not allow someone to come along and threaten them to give up their rights that the federal government agreed they should have.

How ridiculous Jerry Mueller! That’s like if I was found guilty of fishing on Upper Red Lake without my Minnesota fishing license to ask a lawyer or a special group to take my case to federal court to get the state of Minnesota to give back the water rights to Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians, which belong to them years ago.

It’s too bad that some of society is still racist after all these years. America has come along ways from the 50’s & 60’s; it’s too bad some people haven’t come along with the rest of America . Nobody should live in the past! We all should learn from the past!

Once people realize that one nationality is not superior to the others; just maybe all this racism will be vanished. People need to understand, everyone wants to be treated with respect and it’s alright if you don’t agree with them, that’s what makes this America . Everyone is allowed to think, act and be themselves. Don’t hate because you don’t agree with them or don’t understand their way of life. Life is way too short for hating and being miserable.
