A Public Apology from Red Lake Net News
On Wednesday,
September 20, 2006, a
letter was published on Red Lake Net News (www.rlnn.com)
that was addressed to members of the Red Lake Community. This letter talked
about vandalism at the Catholic Cemetery in Red Lake.
At the time of this
posting, and still today, I didn’t see anything ‘wrong’ with the letter, and I
felt if this was really happening, that everyone should know about it.
I received a
telephone call from the Red Lake Tribal Secretary’s office a few days later,
whereupon members of one of the families mentioned in the letter, had taken
offense to it and wanted a public apology for allowing it.
Like I mentioned
earlier, I did not see anything wrong with this letter, but at the same time, Red Lake Net News doesn’t want to be in the position of offending anyone, and
especially anyone who has passed on or their families.
Red Lake Net News
therefore apologizes publicly for this letter, but isn’t sure what else
might be requested by the person(s) making the request, since a third party was
involved in making the initial statement.
