MOHAVE VALLEY
- Nora McDowell, chairwoman of the Fort Mojave Indian Tribe, is facing a recall
election in June.
Recall petitions were recently turned in to the tribal council
secretary. Signatures have been verified and McDowell has been given official
notification, according to Gentry Medrano, community relations liaison.
To force an election, recall activists needed to gather
signatures from 30 percent of the Tribe's registered voters, about 130 signatures.
The election is scheduled for June 18.
The chairwoman, who has
served on the council for 24 years, has requested a meeting with tribal
membership to respond to the issues raised in the petition.
A date for the meeting has not been scheduled by the Tribal
council.
Specific information regarding complaints or allegations listed
in the petition have not been released.
