I want to tell you about congratulations due to a young American Indian male who is a positive asset as a student in our community. Aaron Lussier, an enrolled member of Red Lake, won the Minnesota state drum and dance competition in the 9-12th grade Boys Grass Dance category. He took first place and proudly represented Minneapolis youth on March 12th at the Bug School in Cass Lake, MN.
Aaron is also going to represent us in Europe at the People to People Student Embassador Program in June for twenty-one days. As a student embassador, Aaron will be the only Native American student among 45 going abroad from Minnesota. Aaron is trying to raise money to study abroad. Please contact his mother at: (612) 275-2281 if you would like to assist Aaron in raising funds for the trip.
Aaron is the son of Colleen Parkhurst who works at Running Wolf Fitness Center in Minneapolis.

Let me add my strong support for Aaron. He was the only young pow wow dancer lecturing against tobacco except for ceremonies at the national anti-tobacco conference in San Francisco two years ago. At the age of 14.5 he was poised and confident and got a long ovation. He truly represented the young Indian leadership coming out of Red Lake and Minnesota. Graham Hartley and I accompanied him.
This is a remarkable young person who needs and deserves all the help we can give him for his European tour.
I have known Aaron since he was a tot and my husband Lloyd has known him and the family even longer.
Thanks for any support you can give. I know the family will truly appreciate it.
Best,
Laura |
