The Annual Diabetes Conference was held in Redby at New Beginnings on June 27, 2007, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a variety of speakers and individual sessions.
Two keynote speakers included Stephanie Morgan, Balancing our Lifestyles, and Dr. Kham Vay Ung, DPM Foot and Ankle Clinic PC from Sioux City, IA.
Morning and afternoon individual sessions included A Report to the Community: Red Lake diabetes Program by Charmaine Branchaud, RN BSN CDF, Nurse Secialist-Diabetes Education;; a Walk Against Diabetes (MMAD); Heart Disease and Diabetes by Rachele M. Donnell, RN, CHN; Acanthosis Nigricans, Eileen Sumner, RN, CDE; Balancingn Our Lifestyles-Participation Testimonials, John Nicholson, RN/PHN; Our Health and Diabetes-The Connection, Cathy Gunvaidon, Registered Dential Hygenist; Diabetes Prevention and Balancing Our Lifestyles, Tiffany Hommes, RNP; and Look Before You Leap, Hazards in the Home and How to Prevent Injuries, Christine Ostrom, Tribal Sanitarian.
Other events included screenings for Balancing Our Lifestyles, Blood Sugar and Blood Presure testing and Diabetes Bingo and Door Prizes.
The conference was sponsored by Red Lake Comprehensive Health Services, Balancing Our Lifestyles Diabetes Prevention Program and the Red Lake Tribal Council.
