SUING A SCHOOL DISTRICT
It hurts the students
Why is the Red Lake School District responsible for $1 million for the actions of students in that school (Star Tribune, July 21)? I understand the people receiving the settlement suffered a great loss and nothing can bring back their loved one. However, isn't taking $1 million from an already strapped school system only going to continue hurting the school in the future?
I am a taxpayer and parent in Bloomington, where last year my school district was sued and paid out a large sum of money for some ridiculous reason. I was upset then, and this only brings back those memories. I also now get a longer list of school supplies that we are required to provide for our kids.
Do people not understand that these large-dollar settlements against the school districts do nothing but make all of the other parents and children in the school system suffer and fork out more money for public education?
