RE:             Archaeology Excavations at Diamond Point Park

Preserving our heritage while building our future.

Starting the morning of Tuesday August 1st archaeologists from The 106 Group will be excavating a significant archaeological site located in Diamond Point Park.  The site dates back to at least 3,000 years ago.  Archaeologists will be in the park for three full days, working to better understand how the park has been used by different cultures over past centuries.

The City of Bemidji is working with a cultural resources advisory group - made up of Native American community leaders - to obtain their insight into the process and explore how best to share the stories of this special place.  All of this work is part of the development stage of the City’s Master Plan for the park.  The Master Plan can be found at http://www.ci.bemidji.mn.us/.

Tours of the site will be available for members of the press at 3:00 each afternoon.  The contact person for these tours is Amanda Adams and she can be reached at amandaadams@106group.com or by phone at 612.695.1662.  A brochure that describes the park’s history and archaeology is available for download at: www.106group.com.
