FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

LEECH LAKE TRIBAL COLLEGE OFFERS COURSES ONLINE

Cass Lake, MN.  Leech Lake Tribal College (LLTC) is proud to announce it will be offering its first online course spring semester.  This course will be delivered primarily over the internet so students may access it anytime or anyplace through a computer connected to the internet. Students will come to campus a few times during the semester, but will attend class via a website hosted by Blackboard, a leader in online course management systems.  To prepare for more online courses this fall, LLTC is offering more than10 web-enhanced and hybrid courses using Blackboard According to LLTC President Leah Carpenter, “Delivering web-enhanced and totally online courses will make our college more accessible to students, especially for those faced with transportation issues and the need for a more flexible academic environmentUnlike totally online courses, hybrid courses combine the benefits of both the traditional in-class learning environment with online communication, instructional, and internet-rich resources.

Carpenter added, “It is our goal to offer more online courses in the fall. Ojibwe-specific courses are in high demand from a world audience and LLTC is in the position to deliver Native-taught, Native-based courses to anyone in the world.”   In addition to resources available to online students, the college’s new campus is equipped with state-of-the-art teaching equipment and the latest technology infrastructure. With support from IBM, LLTC has recently added a secure wireless canopy across campus to facilitate internet access as well as providing a pilot program this spring in e-commerce curriculum.  “We are excited about the continued progress our college community is  making to ensure that our graduates are highly skilled and prepared to enter today’s competitive workforce or to successfully transfer to a 4-year program at an institution of their choice,” commented Carpenter.  Full accreditation is anticipated in 2006.

Spring semester courses begin January 9.  To find out more about the online courses or to set up a campus visit, check out the college website at www.lltc.org or call 218-335-4222 or 218-335-4247.
