A REPORT TO THE COMMUNITY

RED LAKE SCHOOL DISTRICT SUPERINTENDENT

JANUARY 2005

**The Red Lake School Board of Education monthly meeting for January 2005 is scheduled for Wednesday, January 19, 5 PM, Administration office.

The school district has presented to the Minnesota Department of Education an updated Review and Comment statement for a new middle school addition, high school addition, and renovations in the middle school. This is the same proposal that we submitted last year for the bonding bill and the amount was 22.1 Million. The Governor has recommended in the 2005 bonding bill proposal from his office 24.040 million for the Red Lake School District to complete the above projects. Throughout the 2005 legislative sessions, the school district will meet with a number of Senate and House committees presenting the bonding bill for their committee approval.

On Friday, January 7, there will be a Town Meeting held at the Red Lake Center. The meeting is scheduled to run from 10:30 to Noon. Sen. Rod Skoe has called the meeting to listen to legislative concerns that the Red Lake Nation and School District have. Rep. Sailer and a number of other senators and representatives will also be on hand to answer questions.

Why do we start late on days when it is extremely cold? Of course, the safety of all of the children is the school districts main concern. An announcement will be placed on radio (KB101), WCCO news in the morning, and on the local police scanner. There are times when the school district knows it is going to be very cold out the next morning. When this happens, reminder notes will be sent home with the students announcing a two-hour delay in the start of school the next day.

Parents are reminded that elementary students must be accompanied by a parent/guardian at a boys/girls basketball game. There are situations where young children are running around and there is no parental supervision provided. Please make sure your young child has the proper supervision at these games.

Graduation for the Class of 2005 will be held on Saturday, May 28, 1 PM, at the Red Lake Middle School.
