Red Lake sisters to get
$500,000
The city of Redondo Beach, Calif., is paying $500,000 to the Minnesota sisters of a motorist who
was killed after a high-speed chase when police fired a shotgun blast into his chest instead of a
beanbag.
Nathan Lee Rossbach, 40, died Oct. 6, 2002, near Los Angeles International Airport. His sisters
filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the city a year later, alleging police acted with negligence
and used unjustified force.
Police called it a tragic mistake.
In the settlement approved Tuesday by the City Council, Rossbach's sisters, Trudy Cook and
Mamie Rossbach of the Red Lake (Minn.) Indian Reservation will divide the $500,000.
