The Dance

Pedaling with intensity

down the road

trying hard to breakthrough the border

wanting to make a difference

tiny soul striding across

regarded as a curiosity.

In dreams and visions

souls become characters through

transitional passages,

odd lovers connect—

talking his res-talk

striding awkwardly toward me

ever protecting my honor

moccasins quietly slipping past the deer.

My body hugs his

unpredictably falling—

from a world filled with songs

of lost love—

soul listens to another voice

humbly absorbing the message

echoing through a death sleep.

Soaring through

an undiscovered backyard

familiar spirit pounding me

memorizing the mating call

cowbells band the ankles

individual strands of sound unite to

love’s drumbeat.

My feet change

following a new beat

our presence  

exists where

sun sparkles on the water

like people running to the shore.
