Warriors land first win of year with 61-52 triumph against Laporte From the Bemidji Pioneer RED LAKE – Junior Robin Kelly led four players in double figures with 14 points as Red Lake downed Laporte 61-52 on Tuesday night. Red Lake trailed 24-20 at halftime but outscored the Wildcats 43-28 in the second half. Senior Daryl Crowe hit 13, senior Clayton Roberts scored 11 and junior Dallas Crowe added 10 points for the Warriors who picked up their first win of the season (1-3). Senior Jamie Day, junior Dan Winter and sophomore Teddy Reimer all poured in 12 points for Laporte (1-4). Laporte hosts Pillager Thursday while Red Lake is at Walker-Hackensack-Akeley Friday. Cass Lake-Bena 63, Clearbrook-Gnvk 37 CASS LAKE – Seniors Cara Donnell and Kristina Salscheider both topped the 20-point mark to pace Cass Lake-Bena to a 63-37 win over Clearbrook-Gonvick Tuesday in a battle of two area teams. The Panthers are a perfect 7-0 on the season. Salscheider took scoring honors with 22 points but Donnell wasn’t far behind hitting 21. Katie Anderson led the Bears with 14 points and Heidi Kjolhaug chipped in 13. CLB takes part in the Fosston Holiday Tournament Friday and Saturday while C-G (1-5) hosts Mahnomen Thursday. Fosston 73, Mahnomen 19 FOSSTON – A 45-6 lead at halftime led to a 73-19 win for the Fosston girls basketball team Tuesday over Mahnomen. Nine of the ten players on the Fosston roster scored with Shelly Francis leading the way with a game-high 16 points. Kristi Lucken hit 14, Kelly Landsverk scored 12 and Kayla Bagaason netted 11 in the win. Only three players scored for Mahnomen. Heather Hanson led with 10 points. Next for Fosston (6-0) is this Friday and Saturday when they host the Fosston Holiday Tournament. Laporte 75, Sebeka 45 LAPORTE – Senior Heather White exploded for 23 points to give Laporte a 75-45 win over Sebeka Tuesday. Senior Michelle Bessler added 17 points and junior Megan Zubke ended with 13 points for the Wildcats (5-2). Becca Kilbourne led Sebeka with 13 points. Laporte travels to Hill City Thursday in their next start. Nevis 61, Hill City 40 Nevis senior Jane DeCrans dished out a school-record 12 assists in the Tigers’ 61-40 win over Hill City Monday. Junior Ali Hesse ended with a double-double scoring 16 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Freshman Gretta Hjelseth led Nevis with 17 points.
