Warriors fall to Panthers 75-63 and other basketball scores

RED LAKE A slim 36-32 lead at halftime turned into a 75-63 win for Cass Lake-Bena over Red Lake Tuesday.

CLBs Bill Brown led all scoring with 24 points and Byron Ninham wasnt far behind with 23 points.

Daryl and Dallas Crowe led the Warriors with 18 and 17 points respectively.

Red Lake (0-2) hosts Norman County East Saturday at 3 p.m. while CLB (3-1) hosts Kelliher/Northome Friday.

Sacred Heart 48

CLEARBROOK Clearbrook-Gonvick took a commanding 47-28 lead at halftime and then outscored East Grand Forks Sacred Heart 23-6 in the fourth quarter for a 82-48 win Tuesday.

Nine players scored for the Bears, who improved to 4-0 on the year, led by junior Scott Stebe and senior Jonny Berg with 16 points each.

Sophomore Clayton Johnson added 15 points in the win.

Tom Fontaine and Mike Phaneuf led the Eagles with 17 and 12 points respectively.

The Bears travel to Red Lake Falls Tuesday in their next start.

BLACKDUCK The Days of Laporte lifted the Wildcats to a 71-64 win over Blackduck Tuesday.

Blackduck led 39-34 at halftime but was outscored 37-25 in the second half.

Senior Jamie Day scored 16 points while junior Tyler Day and senior Zach Day each poured in 15 points.

The DrakesScott Geerdes took game honors with 22 points. Cody Townsend added 15 and Cody Gross chipped in 12 points.

Blackduck (0-3) hosts Littlefork-Big Falls Friday while Laporte hosts Hill City the same night.

KELLIHER Nevis outlasted Kelliher/Northome in a closely contested game Tuesday 66-63.

Nevis held a slim 36-31 lead at halftime before holding off the Tigers.

Justin Gilge took scoring honors in the loss with 21 points for the Mustangs (1-1). Adam Nistler added 13 points.

Zach Halfmann led four players in double figures for the Tigers with 17 points. Danny Campbell, Willy Wicks and Brandon Bellomo added 15, 11 and 10 points respectively.

Kelliher/Northome is a Cass Lake-Bena Friday in their next start while Nevis (2-2) invades Cass Lake-Bena Monday for their next start.

Nevis begins 1-2

The Nevis boys basketball team began the season 1-2 with an opening win over Blackduck and losses to Menahga and Pillager, all on the road.

The Tigers held on to defeat Blackduck 64-56 Nov. 30 despite being outscored 35-28 in the second half. Senior Zach Halfmann led the team with a game-high 24 points. Senior Kent Trehus added 10 points.

A slow start plagued Nevis in their 69-51 loss to Pillager Dec. 2. The Tigers fell behind by 10 points early on but matched the Huskies in the second half being outscored just 35-33. Halfmann again led the team with 13 points and junior Matt Lien added 10.

The Tigers spotted Menahga 19 points in the first quarter and lost 92-61 Dec. 3. Junior Danny Campbell came off the bench to score 24 points while Halfmann hit 17 and Trehus 13 in the loss.

Nevis played at Kelliher/Northome Tuesday and travels to Cass Lake-Bena Monday in their next start.

BAGLEY The Cass Lake-Bena girls basketball team never trailed, winning 43-35 over Bagley Tuesday to hand Bagley their first loss of the year while improving to a perfect 5-0 on the year.

Kristina Salscheider led the Panthersbalanced attack with 12 points. Cara Donnell hit 11 and Amber Schaaf added 10 points.

Lindsay Gray led the Flyers with 12 points.

CLB hosts Blackduck Thursday while Bagley (4-1) travels to Crookston the same night.

BLACKDUCK Laporte outscored Blackduck 13-5 in the second quarter and went on to win 54-34 Tuesday to climb over the .500 mark at 3-2 on the season.

Senior Michelle Bessler led way with a game-high 17 points in the win. Senior Heather White added 15 for the Wildcats.

Blackduck junior Jamie Exner was the lone Drake in double figures with 16 points. Exner and senior Kelly Carlson each grabbed six rebounds and Carlson had four steals. Senior Jenna McKean led the team with eight assists.

Blackduck (2-2) travels to Cass Lake-Bena Thursday and Laporte is at Pine River-Backus the same night.

KELLIHER Sophomore Anne Rittgers scored 14 points and pulled down 12 rebounds to lead the Nevis girls basketball team to a 52-18 win over Kelliher/Northome Monday.

Junior Ali Hesse also hit double figures for the Tigers with 14 points. Hesse was one rebound shy of a double-double with nine.

Senior Jane DeCrans dished out seven assists and junior Jill Wizik had three steals.

Senior Jenna Neft led the Mustangs with five points.
