State Rep. Sailer
announces toll-free tax assistance number
ST.
PAUL – With
the April 15 income tax filing deadline right around the corner, State
Representative Brita Sailer wants to remind people
that a toll-free tax assistance number has been reinstated for Minnesota taxpayers
living in Greater Minnesota.
According to Sailer, residents with questions about their state tax
return can now call the Minnesota Department of Revenue toll-free to get their
questions answered. Legislation to reinstate the toll-free number was
introduced last year in response to concerns from outstate
residents, but that bill did not get a hearing.
This year, similar legislation caused the Minnesota Department of
Revenue to reinstate the service, a move that pleased Sailer.
"Eliminating
the toll-free number in the first place was a mistake," said Sailer. "People
living outside of the metro area who are trying to complete accurate and timely
tax returns should be able to make a free phone call when they have questions.
Long-distance calls to get tax questions answered can be very long and
expensive."
