JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

 

Position:     GIS/Data Management Specialist

 

Location:    Red Lake Department of Natural Resources (RLDNR), Red Lake, MN

 

Reports To:          Water Program Director

 

Responsibilities: Provide a wide range of Geographic Information System (GIS) support, and provide IT support.  Through cooperative communication with staff and assessment of departmental goals and objectives, provide GIS and data management coordination and services for departmental field data collection and mapping efforts (e.g., water resources management, wetland delineation, vegetation mapping).  Continue development and maintenance of water resources database primarily using Microsoft Access.  Design and maintain a RLDNR website.  Development of custom front-end database forms to simplify data entry process for RLDNR employees.  Administer database related user rights, security, backup, maintenance, software updates, etc.  Provide training and advice to users regarding GIS applications including:  Manage departmental GPS fleet, develop and provide customized GIS and spatial analysis training for staff.  Prepare technical reports, assist with grant applications and administration, and other duties as assigned.  

 

Required Qualifications: Candidate must:

 

Ř     Possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Geography, Biology, Environmental Science, Natural Resources Management, or a related discipline with a natural resources background.

Ř     Demonstrate computer aptitude, including experience in database development and implementation.

Ř     Demonstrate proficiency using the ArcGIS suite of software (ArcView 3.2, ArcMap, ArcCatalog, ArcToolbox, Arc/Info Workstation), Access, and Microsoft SQL Server

Ř     Have an ability to report on field research, have strong technical writing skills and an ability to communicate effectively with professionals and the general public.

Ř     Be physically fit and able to work outdoors, have a valid driver’s license with no recent violations; be punctual, responsible, and able to work cooperatively in a team environment with others.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

          Familiarity with graphics programs (Adobe Illustrator).  

 

Salary: $30,000 to $35,000, commensurate with education and experience.  Excellent fringe benefits package.
