CLB paces Northland All-Stars

Unbeaten champion Cass Lake-Bena led the way on the Northland Conference All-Star team gaining spots for all five starters.

Runner-up Red Lake placed two and third place WHA three while Laporte also gained two berths and Nevis, newcomer Pine River and Blackduck one.

CLB again posted a perfect 12-0 league mark to win its third straight title and went on to reach the title game at the State Class A tournament before bowing to Ellsworth 74-73 on a last second three pointer.

Gaining the All-Conference team were Brady Fairbanks, Travis Huesers, Nate and Joel Salscheider and Martin Wind.

Red Lake sent Tom Barrett and Guy Stately while WHA picks were Trent Wise, Jeff Lissick and Paul Morrison.

Teddy Reimer and Anthony Bessler came from Laporte with Nolan Toft of Nevis, Micah Eveland of Pine River and Jonny Bennett of Blackduck rounding out the cast.

Fairbanks, Barrett, Joel Salscheider, Stately and Morrison were repeaters from the 2006 team. Nate Salscheider, Reimer, Wise and Bennett advanced from the honorable mention ranks.

Toft was named Rookie of the Year. Dan Ninham of CLB and Roger White of Red Lake shared the Coach of the Year Award.

While the league does not pick an MVP, Fairbanks was the top vote getter for the all star team.

WHA won the B Team championship.

Fairbanks won the league scoring title with a 30.4 average with Barrett connecting at 25.1 and Reimer, Toft and Eveland over 20.

Fairbanks also paced the league with a 10.1 rebound average with Lissick at 9.9 and Taylor Day of Laporte at 9.2.

Huesers led in assists at 11.9 while Joel Salscheider and Ray Schuh of Kelliher-Northome were the steals leaders with four per game.
