White Earth, Leech Lake primary results announced

On Wednesday morning, the
White Earth and Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe reported
the unofficial results of Tuesday’s primary election.
In the White Earth primary for secretary-treasurer,
incumbent Franklin “Bud” Heisler received 803 votes,
42.92 percent, and Kenneth R. Fox Jr. received 235 votes, 12.56 percent. The
other eight candidates divided the remainder of the 3,062 votes cast.
In the contest for District II
representative, incumbent Anthony “Tony” Wadena received 209 votes, 29.90
percent, and Terrance “Terry” Tibbetts received 178
votes, 25.46 percent. The other seven candidates divided the remainder of the
699 vote total.
These four candidates will move on to the
general election June 13.
Incumbent District I Rep. Irene “Rene” Auginaush received 231 votes, 50.22, percent. Because she
received a majority vote, she is automatically re-elected. Eight candidates for
District I representative divided 460 total votes.
In the Leech Lake Reservation vote for
secretary-treasurer, incumbent Arthur “Archie” LaRose
received 872 votes, 45.99 percent, and Burton “Luke” Wilson received 483 votes,
24.41 percent. The other six candidates divided the remainder of the 1,111
votes cast.
For District I committeeman, Robbie M. Howe
received 130 votes, 23.42 percent, and James Howard received 99 votes, 17.83
percent. The other eight candidates divided the remainder of the 555 votes
cast.
For District II committeeman, incumbent
Lyman Losh received 129 votes, 40.95 percent, and
Deborah “Debbie” Tibbetts received 57 votes, 18
percent. The other three candidates divided the remainder of the 315 vote
total.
These top candidates will run in the June 13
general election.
