Primary Function: Required to teach basic
vocational education skills (primarily carpentry), transport participants to
alternative learning center and to job sites and oversee shop and tool area. Salary: $20.00/hour @ 32 hours per week
Responsibilities:
- Develop and coordinate a vocational
(construction) curriculum and plans for implementation
- In collaboration with the academic instructor
and worksite instructors, provide vocational education classes which teach
construction related skills, including but not limited to:
Demolition,
framing, interior work, and blueprint reading
Safe
procedures for use and handling of tools
Appropriate
ways to handle technical construction problems that arise at the building site
- Observe and evaluate trainees at the worksite
and provide hands-on assistance in training at the worksite.
- Coordinate testing and evaluation of student
skills with the site trainers and provide regular assessment of student
skills with the site trainers and provide regular assessment of student
performance. Document student skill
attainment, in coordination with the academic instructor and worksite
instructors.
- Keep counselor and other staff informed about
issues and needs of the trainees and participate in regular team reviews
of student progress.
- Assist in informal personal and vocational
counseling and development of trainees’ leadership skills in conjunction
with other YouthBuild staff.
- Provide informal crisis intervention
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in education or related field
such as: certified construction credentials
- Experience in creative curriculum planning and
development
- Must have deep respect for the ides and
intelligence of young adults
- Strong commitment to helping young people
succeed in an innovative training program, to reorient their lives,
nurture their leadership skills and enable them to make difference in
their communities.
- Ability to relate sensitively to multi-racial
and multi-cultural groups of young people.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to team teach and work as part of a team
- A valid drivers license with a bus endorsement
