To serve
and work as a team with other fire fighters providing fire protection and related
fire services to the Red Lake Reservation.Full-time position with benefits, $9/hr, reporting to the Fire Chief.Two positions (1-Ponemah, 1-Redlake).
Essential Responsibilities & Duties:
Taking directions from and
assisting the Fire Chief with duties.
Promptly and efficiently
respond to all emergency fire/accident calls while on duty, including
fire bar calls when off duty
Driving firefighting vehicles
to scenes and securing emergency scene until relieved by Fire Chief
Call/alerting volunteer firefighters
when needed
Responsible for knowing the
procedures involved with fire fighting techniques; i.e., knowing how to
connect the pumps to the water supply or hydrant and knowing how to
monitor the gauges for proper water pressure, knowing how to dispense
equipment from the trucks, etc.
Maintaining radio contact
with headquarters and other vehicles during emergency situations
Responsible for and know how
to maintain and care of all fire fighting equipment and vehicles; general
maintenance and minor repairs to station facility and vehicles; cleaning
and maintaining the fire department building and grounds as directed
Must participate in all
training drills and attending any classes or training programs related
to fire fighting
Preparing reports and maintaining
an accurate log of all alarms and fire calls during tour of duty
Must be willing to provide
operating and procedural information to the public as needed
Assisting with fire
suppression as directed
Assisting with training
programs and educational programs conducted for the schools, tribal
program and community members
Performs other duties and
assigned
Qualifications:
High School diploma or GED;
or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent
combination of education and experience
Must possess the appropriate
licenses needed for the operation of specific types of fire vehicles and
a combination of mechanical experience
Must pass a medical
examination which shall include respiratory and physical agility testing
and maintain good health
Knowledgeable of the
geography of the reservation, four communities and surrounding areas
Knowledge of first-aid and
safe operation of motor vehicles, building and equipment maintenance
Must be able to work during
periods of extreme physical and mental stress
Must be able to accept
constructive criticism and supervision and follow instructions
Must be flexible and able to
change work schedules if necessary
Must have a personal
telephone at home
